You Have Lots To Offer When You Present...But You Feel Nervous, You Shake, Sweat & Feel Uncomfortable
You are not alone...I totally get it. Everyone at some point, even professional speakers, have felt anxious and awkward and have shown signs of nervousness.
And now that everyone is presenting online, how do you set yourself up for success with your presentation when it’s you and others on a Zoom meeting or Teams call?
Should I have my camera on? Do I sit or stand? What do I do with my hands? How do I make myself look and sound great so the audience listens and stays engaged?
And how do I do all this AND share my important, complex content and materials?
Some coaches say that body language is key and others say it’s all about your voice.
Let’s not even talk about creating the presentation environment with camera, lighting and sound.
It’s nerve wracking and frustrating and where do you start?Start With Help From A Pro
Most Gurus Are Making Things Worse By Peddling The Idea That They Can Give You “Three Easy Tips” For Improving Your Confidence and Performance
It would be great if there were just three universal tips you could use to get rid of all your nervous behaviours and bring your presentations to life.
Don’t kill the messenger but...that’s just NOT the way it works. That’s like expecting to become a world famous chef with only one recipe. You need lots of recipes, not to mention ingredients, perspectives, ideas...outside influences.
The Reality Is, There Isn’t ONE Thing That Makes A Great Speaker Successful.
I mean...do you really think all you need to be successful in presentations is to follow three simple tips? Or copy the way I present in my videos?
Sure, I am an excellent presenter, but my skills are based on experience and continuous learning. They are built on education, observation and practice.
Successful presentations aren’t delivered based on learning a single strategy or tactic…
Trying to think of the ONE strategy or tactic will bog you down or even stop you in your tracks!
Too many leaders assume they are not experiencing success in their presentations because they haven’t found the RIGHT tip or tool yet. And this has them hopping from tip to tip, tool to tool and coach to coach!
When their presentation doesn’t have the desired outcome or impact, they figure they just don’t have the skill. They need to start again. Or they give up.
And that is why they stay stuck!
The Challenge Isn’t Finding The Right Techniques...
It’s Recognizing How and When To Use The Techniques So They Work For You
If the path to become a better presenter was to watch keynotes and talks, and copy what they did, then everyone would be a powerful and impactful speaker!
Heck, when I first had to present to the executive back in 1993, I already had a Theatre degree and performed in a comedy troupe. I knew a lot about performance.
The problem was I didn't know which techniques to use and when to use them!
To deliver a killer presentation, you’re going to have to use some tips and techniques. There is no way around that. I use them every day!
But just like you, every presentation you develop and deliver is unique!
Determining how to deliver a presentation that clicks requires thinking, practice, and more practice. It’s called...rehearsal.
Trying to deliver a presentation without preparation is like taking off on a roadtrip with a car with no engine! You won’t get very far.
All the techniques in the world won’t work for you if you haven’t taken the time to think through how and when you want to use them. You need to rehearse!
With The Right Framework In Place…
➔ You can deliver presentations, run meetings, or share big ideas easily.
➔ You will feel confident standing in front of a room or on Zoom speaking
➔ You will know how to set up your presentation space for success
➔ You will have a mindset that gives you freedom to share your ideas
➔ Presenting will feel effortless and, yes, even fun!
➔ You will become addicted to presenting and even look forward to it!
Imagine what would be possible for you if you felt comfortable, confident, and at ease, every time you presented!
What would it feel like to know that people hear you, see you, understand you, and want more of what you are sharing?
What impact could you have on the world if you could engage your audience and share your important ideas with ease?
Start Thinking Like A Performer
Like it or not, when you are presenting, you are a performer. Whether you are on stage, on Zoom, or at a boardroom table, you are in a performance space.
If you embrace a performance mindset, one that helps you commit fully to being 100% present, you will begin to engage in new and unexpected ways
When you change the way you think and act you’ll start presenting with confidence and your expertise will be sought time after time.
Clear, engaging talks open doors...

Your presentation must be grounded in performance.
When I was first starting my career I found myself in a job where I didn’t fit. And...I developed a strange, physical tic.
It first appeared when I was presenting to the vice president of the company, and after the presentation, as we were leaving the boardroom, I turned to my colleague and asked, “Did I say something wrong? Why did you look at me like that?''
She asked, “What were you doing with your mouth? You literally had your mouth stretching out…like a beak.”
I didn't know what she was talking about.
A week later it happened again. And I realized that I had this tic. When something unconsciously didn’t feel right, my beak would emerge, my lips would pull out for about a half second and then pull back.
Many of us have our own beak. It can come in the form of the never-ending shaking leg. Or the wandering of the stage or boardroom. Or the blinking eyes. Some people have sounds that they repeat like “um” or “er.”
I'm lucky that I had Helen, giving me the heads up that my beak was showing. Turns out that friend was a very good friend, indeed. I ended up marrying Helen. And we've been together for almost 25 years!
I was generating a beak because I felt like I didn’t fit in, that I was a fraud. From that point on, I started to think about my presentations in a different way. I started to think about them as performances. Every single one of them was important. Every single one required preparation.
You need to start thinking about yourself as a performer. No matter who you are or where you are. Whether you're at your desk, at home on Zoom or Teams, on a stage, in a coffee shop or in a boardroom having a job interview, you are performing.

Not long ago I was delivering a webinar and sharing some of my key content. I felt a little off that day and when I was finished I felt discouraged.
The feeling lasted for about 30 seconds. Because I received about a dozen emails asking me “how I deliver and present” so well? What do I do?
A colleague even called me to say how impressed they were and when I told them I had felt a little “off”, she said, “Wow! I have never seen anyone present the way you do. It was remarkable."
